“Say it Loud I’m Black and I’m Proud by James Brown is notable both as one of Brown’s signature game songs and as one of the most popular black power anthems of the s.

Yes he pursued you. Yes he expressed his desire efficiently and convincingly in the beginning, but once in a relationship, black men tend to retreat to safety. It’s part of our conditioning. The vulnerability that we feel is juxtaposed with the strength (a.k.a “swagger”) that we superficially display. Unfortunately, we don’t know when to drop it, or display it in a different manner (e.g., with compassion, tenderness, or empathy). Have you ever heard someone say, “He’s got a compassionate swagger?” Of course not. Swagger is all about confidence and strength. It protects us from other men, and makes us desirable to women. We just have to be programmed to know when it’s appropriate and safe to be swaggerless.

I’m not sure if it were meant to be used by characters in the Narrative, which renders the device defunct in my hands, but since we’re allowing ourselves some liberties reserved for the novice, I’d like to plead “Unreliable Narrator,” and assure that I cover this very contentious issue-Lazoo’s son and the light in which he’s portrayed in GUIOPERA II by “The Guy,” which I might add has something to do with Metofeaz Litigatti, good old Feeaz, the whimsical one, the fall guy; where the hell would I be without that guy, ah?

Road tripping has been an integral part of American life since the advent of the automobile age. The myth and romance of the open road was created in such classic films as Easy Rider, Vacation and even Thelma and Louise. That same freedom is the topic of great American novels like Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, and it inspired the maniacal true life events depicted in Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. The open road pervades the American consciousness, just as the Arctic pervades the Canadian.
